Food and beverage is the largest franchise category in India, and the one where international brands have found the fastest traction. Rising disposable income in metros and Tier-2 cities, combined with a young population that eats out frequently, has made F&B the default entry point for first-time franchise investors.
BusinessIQ, an Authorized Independent Franchise Consultant of Franchise India, currently represents 21 international food and beverage brands across coffee, tea, pizza, QSR, bakery and dessert formats — with investment levels from ₹15 Lakhs to ₹80 Lakhs.

Choosing the right food franchise format
Kiosk formats (₹15 – 25 Lakhs)
The fastest route into F&B franchising. A kiosk needs 100–250 sq ft, runs with two or three staff, and can open within 6–10 weeks of signing. Because rent and payroll are low, break-even is typically faster than a full restaurant — but you are dependent on the footfall of the mall or transit hub you sit in, so site selection matters more than with any other format.
Café and compact QSR (₹25 – 40 Lakhs)
The most common choice for first-time investors. Beverage-led cafés carry strong gross margins because ingredient cost per cup is low and wastage is minimal. This band also gives you a seated experience, which supports longer dwell time and higher average bills than a kiosk.
Full-format restaurants (₹40 Lakhs +)
Higher revenue potential and much stronger brand presence, but also higher rent, a larger team and more complex licensing. Best suited to investors who either have prior hospitality experience or are appointing an experienced operations manager.
What to check before signing
- Supply chain in India. An international brand is only viable here if core ingredients are locally sourced or reliably imported. Ask where the supply chain sits today.
- Territory rights. Clarify whether you hold exclusivity for your area, and over what radius.
- Royalty and marketing fees. Ongoing percentages matter more to long-run returns than the one-time franchise fee.
- Vegetarian and regional menu fit. Brands that cannot adapt the menu for Indian dietary preferences struggle outside metro pockets.
- Training and launch support. Confirm what the brand provides at opening, and for how long afterwards.
